Chris surprised me with a date at Oola, a hidden gem in SoMa. Its also where we had our second date, so it was extra special :)
We perused the Valentine's Day menu and chose our two of three options (ok fine, I had guessed that we would come here after Chris gave me two hints, and I already knew what we'd both be ordering...).
The food here is INCREDIBLE; the pictures do not do it justice! I did notice another couple photographing each dish, and I got a huge kick out of watching them.
We started with a dish of burrata with cherry tomatoes and an oven-dried tomato vinaigrette:
You can barely even see the burrata in the picture, but it was absolutely delicious!
Chris ordered the foie gras tortellini with shaved foie gras and shiitake broth:
Again, the photo doesn't do it justice, but it was out of this world. I don't love foie gras, but this dish is so incredibly rich that I couldn't resist my share of bites! The three dark pieces on top are delectable mushrooms...
Second course:
Pan roasted sturgeon with fennel confit, fried fingerlings and green olive parsley vinaigrette:
I wasn't sure if I'd like sturgeon since it sounds like a really meaty fish, but its actually really light and flakey.
Chris ordered the filet mignon with cauliflower puree, parisian potatoes and perigourdine sauce:
And last but not least, dessert!
Chris was talked into the raspberry and frangelico brioche bread pudding with crème anglaise:
and I devoured the warm chocolate caramel cake with creme fraiche ice cream:
I love that the restaurant included a choice of champagne or a tequila shot with the menu! Of course we both chose champagne...
All in all a delicious experience. If you go here for the first time I highly recommend the baby back ribs (the meat literally falls off the bone) and the blood orange margarita...mmmm!!
